Seek MORE with Sarah

Updated: Jul 8

This Summer, we will be highlighting our six lovely interns, who are part of the MORE Magazine team. Seek MORE by reading their stories on who they are and why they chose MORE Magazine.

My name is Sarah Oliver, I just finished my freshmen year at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University-Purdue University. I’m pursing a degree in marketing and I hope to use that within the beauty industry somehow. I am still learning what I want to do exactly in my future career, however beauty has always been a passion of mine and I think it’s an industry that can be very empowering for women. My dream is to work for a company that has the goal of doing just that, empowering women. I want to help build the confidence of other women and help others feel comfortable in their own skin.

When I was growing up, I struggled a lot with insecurities about how I look and I would compare myself to everyone around me. I was always bullied by other girls that I saw as prettier than me.

8th grade is when it got the worst for me. I got involved with a group of girls that didn’t have the best mind set and always looked down on themselves. This made me adopt the same way of thinking and I started struggling with eating. I remember one girl asked me at lunch one day, “are you really going to eat all that?" This stuck with me for a long time. I didn't understand why women would go against each other. I didn’t feel comfortable with myself because of this.

This mindset continued for a few years into high school, but eventually I learned to surround myself with better people and started changing my way of thinking. I found girls on social media that preached feeling comfortable with how you are and learning to love yourself. They didn't put women against each other, instead they supported other women.

College has really helped me find my self love. I've found women that support me and support others. MORE Magazine has the goal of women supporting women and I believe that it is so important to teach others that. This gives other women people to look up to and strive to be.

I applied for the internship position at MORE because of the goals that the company has and the impact they strive to make. It is exactly the kind of company I want to work for. Not only am I now working for a company that fits my passions, I am also working alongside women that have similar goals. To me, working for MORE means putting out information that builds others up and help’s them “seek MORE” by pushing through the insecurities they have and finding what makes them unique.
