Seek MORE with Aashna

Updated: May 22, 2023

This Summer, we will be highlighting our four lovely interns, who part of the MORE Magazine team. Seek MORE by reading their stories on who they are and why they chose MORE Magazine.

Aashna has now been with MORE Magazine for almost one year, as she serves as our Lead Intern. Read more to learn about how she's grown and about what MORE means to her.

My name is Aashna Dogra, and I serve as the Lead Intern at MORE. I am a sophomore student at the Indiana University, Kelley School of Business, and I am studying Marketing and Management. I also serve as director of the Brand Management committee at my school’s Women in Business organization. My passions include learning about other cultures, working towards a world of body neutrality, and the beauty industry. I hope to utilize the knowledge I gain throughout my time at the business school to pursue a career within the beauty and cosmetics industry.

Growing up, I loved playing around with the mascara I got from the local drugstore, or the blush I found in my mom’s bathroom drawer. I spent my free time playing around with new makeup styles, brands, and techniques, which continues to be an inspiration and my creative outlet. Even when I felt isolated from the world, I had a passion that made me feel that strength I needed to get through the day. The ability to use my face as a palette to create something completely unique is everything to me! Over the years I taught myself how to do a full glam look through many hours of Youtube videos and trial-and-error. I am proud and passionate of what I have learned, and aspire to work towards inclusivity and building brands within the makeup industry.

Young woman holding an issue of MORE Magazine

I have spent the last year working for MORE Magazine, after discovering the magazine at a conference in which Arianna Cruz spoke about being a founder and what MORE is all about. The past year has included creating content for all of MORE’s social platforms, working behind the scenes at photoshoots, finding nonprofits that align with our current issue for our nonprofit neighborhood, and so much more! It has been an honor to work with a brand that prioritizes so many of my own values, such as Diversity, Inclusion, and Conscious Living. The combination of content that readers resonate with, as well as spreading awareness on relevant topics, is what stood out to me when applying for the internship. My time here has truly taught me the meaning of our mission to “Make Opportunities Reachable for Everyone”. Each article encompasses this mission as well as what surrounds us in the world. As a first generation American, it has been incredibly rewarding to be around such a strong group of women that work hard everyday despite any boundaries that attempt to bring us down.

“Seeking MORE” to me means following one’s dreams, no matter how impossible it may appear at the moment. There were many times where I feared I would be perceived as “weak” or “not good enough”, but MORE has taught me that I have the ability to chase absolutely any dream I have. No matter what obstacles come my way, I have learned that it is up to us to break down these barriers to create a better future for ourselves and future generations. I encourage everyone to Seek MORE today, tomorrow, and everyday!

My name is Aashna Dogra, an intern here at MORE, and I am a Freshman at Indiana University - Bloomington, studying at the Kelley School of Business. Some of my passions include working towards social justice, equity, and body neutrality. A big part of my childhood was spent discovering my personal style and what I enjoy doing, despite what my peers around me were up to. One of the most impactful moments was working with beauty and cosmetics. I spend my free time playing around with new makeup styles, brands, and techniques, which continues to be an inspiration and my creative outlet. The ability to use my face as a palette to create something completely unique is everything to me! Outside of that, I love cherishing time with my family and friends, exploring the world and what it has to offer, as well as listening to all kinds of music (except country, no hate to all the country fans out there).

Young woman holding issue I of MORE Magazine

I have spent the past summer working for MORE Magazine, after discovering the magazine at a conference in which Arianna Cruz spoke about being a founder and what MORE is all about. I fell in love with the brand and everything MORE stood for, and was eager to apply for the summer internship. What struck me the most was the inclusivity of the brand, and how it was far more than “just a magazine”. Each issue has the goal to “inspire, educate, and call to action” which is an understatement of the wide array of stories from so many different communities that speak for so many people who may not have the resources to be heard. MORE specifically stuck with me on a personal level, because as a woman of color, it is easy to feel like a small fish in a big ocean. But, MORE inspires and reminds me everyday that there are good people that want to make each opportunity reachable for everyone, despite what makes us appear “different” from society, and integrating that difference to make our work unique and an accurate representation of who we are.

“Seeking MORE” to me means that there are endless possibilities for what is to come. I used to live in fear that my ideas and innovations were not good enough for the world and that the competition was too intense, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Seeking MORE means that we each individually have the power to make our everlasting impact on the world and that there are people out there who are willing to support and provide the resources to our own definition of success. Despite what may create obstacles in our lives, or any prejudices we may face, we have the power to take control of how we can continue to make the world a better place for all of us to live. Working with MORE has allowed me to integrate the values we celebrate here in my professional as well as personal life, and I encourage others strongly to do the same!
