Seek MORE with Chi Nguyen

Updated: Jul 25

This Summer, we will be highlighting our five lovely interns, who are part of the MORE Magazine team. Seek MORE by reading their stories on who they are and why they chose MORE Magazine.

Chi has been with MORE for two semesters and serves as our Design Intern. Read more to learn about how she has grown in her role at MORE Magazine.

My name is Chi Nguyen, and I am an international student from Vietnam and a recent graduate of DePauw University with a degree in Studio Art and Design Studies. This summer, I’m excited to return to MORE Magazine after a transformative spring internship.

I joined MORE Magazine in the spring because of its mission to amplify underrepresented voices and celebrate creativity and culture. I led layout design projects for Issue X and the zine for the 2025 Women in Business Retreat, and through that work, I pushed myself creatively while learning the ins and outs of editorial design and visual communication.

But MORE was more than a design opportunity; it was a turning point. I felt truly involved. I volunteered at Indy Design Week, participated in portfolio reviews, and connected with professionals who shared their insight and encouragement. These conversations, especially those I had near the end of the semester, shifted my mindset and helped clarify my goals. I realized I want to pursue experiential design, work that combines storytelling with physical space, interaction, and sensory engagement, and to grow my technical skills by learning tools and methods I haven’t yet explored.

I’m returning to MORE this summer to seek MORE of what I discovered last semester: transformative experiences, meaningful relationships, and continued creative growth. I want to keep learning from and contributing to a publication that aligns with my values, challenges me, and empowers me.

This internship is not just a resume booster; it’s a space where I’ve grown into the kind of artist and designer I aspire to be. I’m excited to keep building, dreaming, and designing alongside the team!

From Spring 2025

My name is Chi Nguyen, and I am an international student from Vietnam, currently a senior at DePauw University majoring in Studio Art and Design Studies. My passion for art and design has been a part of me since childhood, fueling my desire to carve out a place for myself in the creative industry. Three years ago, I made the life-changing decision to study abroad in the United States, a challenge that has allowed me to grow both professionally and personally.

Throughout my journey, I have immersed myself in diverse artistic environments, gaining invaluable experiences that have shaped my creative perspective. I spent four months in Boston working at the Museum of Fine Arts, where I engaged with art education and museum operations. Following that, I moved to New York for another four months, assisting two multidisciplinary artists, Matt Huynh and Lo Harris, where I learned firsthand about the intricacies of working in the creative industry. In addition to these experiences, I have served as a Costume Designer for four theater productions, including The Seagull, Romeo & Juliet at Bridgerton, Into the Woods, and Die Fledermaus. These experiences have expanded my artistic versatility and deepened my understanding of storytelling through different mediums.

Beyond design and visual arts, I am passionate about art education. Teaching both children and adults has been a fulfilling experience, reinforcing my belief in the power of art to connect people and foster creativity. My ultimate aspiration is to become a creative director and eventually establish a nonprofit contemporary art center in my hometown. I want to create a space that supports artists and designers, nurtures emerging talents, and strengthens the local artistic community.

I chose to pursue an internship with MORE Magazine this semester because of its mission and the opportunity to be part of a publication that amplifies diverse voices in the creative industry. My introduction to MORE was serendipitous—I first learned about it through an interview for another position that I ultimately did not get. The interviewer, a friend of MORE's founder, Arianna, saw my passion and introduced me to her. This experience was a powerful reminder that rejection is simply redirection. I have never been afraid to put myself out there, embrace new opportunities, and actively seek growth.

MORE Magazine aligns with my values and aspirations. It is a platform that celebrates art, culture, and storytelling—elements that are central to my work as both an artist and a designer. Through this internship, I hope to gain deeper insights into editorial design, branding, and creative direction, all of which are critical to my future career goals. I am eager to contribute my skills while learning from a team that shares my passion for art and community-building.

This internship is more than just another step in my professional journey; it is a meaningful opportunity to engage with a publication that resonates with my vision. I am excited to immerse myself in this experience, grow as a designer, and take one step closer to realizing my dream of fostering an inclusive and thriving art community.

Her focus on seeking more, both in life and in work, reminds me of how important it is to constantly challenge yourself and push boundaries. Just like Chi’s journey, success in areas like coding also requires continuous learning and refining. When tackling challenges, whether it’s in life or in programming, having the right resources is key. Site like this one can be a great tool for those looking to improve their skills. Always keep seeking more, learning, and growing—whether in coding or personal development.
